The insight into Ryou, only foreshadowed before, was so fabulous. And so true to real life. I love it. He's just so damn cool, and authentic-- he's so real, I would not be surprised at all if he actually existed. Ooooh I am dying for more.
... do you mean Sunday is an THIS Sunday, the 12th, or as in NEXT Sunday, because I don't know if I can wait a week. I hope you will have time to finish it soon in any case! This story is addictive and consuming and I am in love.
As you probably noticed, it was Sunday the 19th ^^; Glad to hear Ryou feels real; with ofic and a new character, it's important to give the readers someone they can get attached to!
Ah yes, thanks, I fixed that typo before leaving on holiday when I caught your post ^_^
Ryou's certainly got a reason for being so introverted. But it looks like he's managed to put a few cracks in his shell. Darius will help him out on that count too ^__^ Glad you liked it!
A couple typos... "This simple phrase, which Ryou would have been expected hours ago" "Right, though Ryou with an inner snort; I'm such a moral person "
Ryou's slightly self-deprecating mental commentary is hilarious, as are the details about his escorts' interactions and his even-tempered horse trying to eat his cloak. I'm looking forward to next Sunday. Happy traveling!
That's odd, I would not have put the Assyrians at a higher place than the Aztecs. True, Assyrians did have a thing for the flaying, but they usually reserved that for rebels. They reaaaaally did not like rebels, which, considering the kind of straggled out empire, slow communication and slower armies to quell them, is reasonable. Spreading people's skins around a pillar is NOT reasonable, but I suppose one had to go with the times. Fortunately Darius's more modern Assyrians have been heavily influenced by both Persians (not dolls either, actually) and Greeks (a little better) But not Spartans. Noooo, not Spartans...

Great soul-searching on Ryou's part. Helped a lot of things come together for the reader, as noted above.
And thank you for introducing me to that meaning of the word "peplum." Cultural literacy has leveled up a notch!
