"He'd wrapped his hair in a twist of cloth tied at the nape to avoid having the disks braided into the ends clink against the roll of blanket that served as pillow

Typo: "Oh, don't worry on his account," said Darius, clapping Ryou on the shoulder hard enough to make the later drop the fig he was holding." Did you mean "latter"?
'Quite practical, but it still reminds me of ladies who put their hair in curlers and wrap their hair before going to bed.'
Fortunately Darius is not familiar enough with our society to be aware of how many Man Points he's losing right there.
I didn't base this off of any particular dance, just dreamt it up (because the way young males show off their testosterone levels has some universal constants to it that'd be pretty easy to tap into) The dance I imagined is pretty macho and only done by men because of the symbolism involved ^^; Plus women wouldn't be stupid enough. It's similar that way to some Easter European dances, I believe.
Ryou's tableknife-waving skillz would force attacking enemies into submission, or at least into fits of WTFery.
I love the sword dance. Yay for celtic tradtions getting some air time. *grins* And yes, i wait with baited breath for that damn conversation. There is just /so/ much that these two need to talk about. And i just can't freakin' wait. Don't make up wait too long eh? I know you're creature of evil and all, but take pity.
Creatures of evil do not take pity *evil smirk* But it's obvioulsy going to happen fairly soon, now that they're finally arriving at a destination. 3-4 more chapters, unless my count is off.
Glad you liked it ^__^ This sword dance is the equivalent of Cossack dancing and other ways for young men to demonstrate how much testosterone they have.
Excellent, as always. The "young mutts" showing off for their commander's new lover made me grin from ear-to-ear.
I admit, I really want to see Ryuu try to explain the male/male relationship issues and prejudices in his own world, mostly because I want to see Darius' reaction to them.
Two lions mating is an expression regional to Assyria to say 'really wild animal sex' or something. I'm hoping to find a place to drop that in at a later date. Or I might just leave it up to the equally wild imagination of my readers
( ... )
When I got to "Kalkal's doorknob" my first thought was "okay, now she's just making stuff up...actually, then again this is Mal, so maybe not." And yeah, the alien cultural allusions are awesome, and would be even if they *were* pure inventions.

I enjoyed the sword-dance too--it reminded me of both the Celtic AND the Filipino variants!
