I wrote a Greasemonkey script that will attempt to link references in comments to images in posts. So if someone has posted ten images, a comment like "I like the second to last picture" will contain a link back up to the ninth image. Like this:

This comment exemplifies the script, if it's installed:

Never mind the first image. The first two images are the smallest. The last five images are more interesting. The second to last is a bit disturbing. The fourth is lovely. Number two (or: number 2) is of a pug. #3, the third (3d, 3rd) image is of David. The last image, the last one, is of Johanna.

One more test: third from last, third to last.

I installed greasemonkey and followed the simple instructions, but nothing has changed. When I go to tools and click on manage user scripts, the lone script (yours) has the following description under "included pages": http://*.livejournal.com/*.html*

Do I need to change anything, because in your test page, everything looks the same all your numbers are just numbers and not image links. Hmmm. BTW, I DL'd greasemonkey for firefox 1.0.7.

I use Windows XP Pro, Firefox 1.5.0.1 and Greasemonkey 0.6.4.

I just tried it on a friend's computer - worked fine with Windows XP Home, Firefox 1.0.6, Greasemonkey 0.5.1.

What operating system are you on? Not sure if it would matter. Also, just as a sanity check - did you reload the page with my test comment, after installing the script?

I'm home now, upgraded to Firefox 1.5 and dl'd greasemonkey for this version. The only way I can get it to work is to clear my cookies, but then I'm logged out. When I log back in, it doesn't work.

Well, could it be browsing schemas as mentioned here? http://malesca.livejournal.com/24357.html?thread=191525

If it only works when you're not logged in, that seems to imply that once you're logged in, LiveJournal changes something to break the script - such as, perhaps, the browsing schema. It works fine for me when logged in, but I believe I'm using the defaults.

Here at work it's Windows 2000, with firefox 1.0.7 and greasemonkey 0.5.3. And yup, reloaded the page after exiting and restarting firefox. Hmmm. Maybe it doesn't work with Win2000? I'll put it on my xp box at home and see if it works. Sounds like a cool feature, esp. with the thumbs.
