Very true, I was impressed by their reaction. At best I half expected a hesitant "well, I'm sure we'll still be hiring, so you can always apply".
Instead I got a "ok, great, leave of absence. Good for you, sounds like a great opportunity. As long as you are coming back."

Now I just have to rob a bank or something to ensure I won't starve.

Also, I have a couch, and a shower and what not, that you could use once you return. I will have to work out the details with my brother Zach, but I'm sure he would be cool with letting you couch serf at our place for a bit. A week or so I'm sure, at the very least.
