I decided last week to give Bones a try, since I know a bunch of people who love it and, you know, it seemed up my alley what with the crime-solving and the UST! And I AM actually loving the show (Bones! Booth! Hodgins! Angela! Sweets! Cam! Caroline! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥), so this is really not a reflection on my general enjoyment of it, but I just got done ( Read more... )

THIS. ALL OF IT. And I always found it a little weird that Hodgins started calling Zack his BFF AFTER he got locked up in a mental institution (unless he said it before and I missed it. I've been catching up on everything through syndication, so everything's out of order!). YOUR BFF KILLED PEOPLE, OKAY, STOP IT.

But, ugh, I do so adore this shooooooooooow. ♥

(AAAAAAH YOUR ICON)

Seriously! I think he might have stated it outright when he asked Zack to be his best man at the Wedding That Never Happened, but, yeah, basically, one would think that once your bestest friend allies himself with a cannibalistic murderer, the relationship might cool just a little bit. I just have kind of a hard time believing that a group of people who have devoted their careers and their lives to catching murderers would (seemingly) brush that whole issue off so easily.

ALEESHA, I AM ONLY FIVE EPISODES INTO SEASON FOUR AND I WANT BONES AND BOOTH TO HAVE SEX ALREADY. I DON'T EVEN CARE IF IT'S FAKE-OUT DREAM SEX, I JUST WANT THE NAKED TIMES, OKAY. (I will not talk about Angela and Hodgins, because at this point in time, they are breaking my heaaaart.)

DUDE, I THINK THE FINALE OF SEASON FOUR IS THE FANFIC EPISODE, I.E. THE ONE THAT'S TOTALLY A WORK OF FANFIC AND NO ONE CAN CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.

Angela and Hodgins. ;_________; They are my favorites.

I CANNOT WAAAAAIT. *wavy hands*

I knoooooooooooow! Ugh ugh ugh, their first date was the cutest thing in the world, and then they were so sweet and loving and adoring of each other for, like, a season and a half, and I am simultaneously thrilled and mad and a little bewildered at the show for the way they broke up, because I thought the whole reappearance of the husband thing was PERFECTLY handled for a loving, stable couple and just reinforced how much they meant to each other, and then, SURPRISE, they split up at the end of it! I was like, "..." DID THEY BELATEDLY REALIZE THE RELATIONSHIP NEEDED TO GET BROKEN IN THAT EPISODE AND THEN JUST RANDOMLY PASTE IT ON THE END THERE?

See, that whole "he killed someone, but awww, we love him anyway!" attitude is what killed the show for me. They did it with Brennan's dad as well, and I hated that so much because she is such a logical, ethical person that I could not see her being okay with even twisting the truth to get her dad out of jail. They'd had her saying before that he'd deserved to be in jail because he killed someone in a horrible manner, but then they had her turn around and twist the truth to get him off, and that sat badly with me.

Then they did the same thing with Zack, and I just got completely sick and tired of the show trying to justify that murder wasn't so bad if your woobie did it, and gave up on it. I don't have the heart to go back to it now. Sigh.

That aside, it's a really good show, and I am so glad you're enjoying it!

OMG THE THING WITH BRENNAN'S DAD. I was so confused, because towards the end there, they seemed to be implying he DIDN'T kill that dude, even though we saw it was him in one of the flashbacks. Then again, we also saw a flashback each starring Russ and Brennan, and I don't remember if we actually saw their dad's face in the actual episode it happened. But Booth and Brennan both clearly believed he had done it! But then maybe not! There was no evidence! But at first they were saying he did it! But suddenly he was denying killing FBI guy! But who the fuck else could have done it! Etc.

At this point I really can't tell anymore what the show was actually trying to say on the issue of his guilt or innocence, but, yes, Brennan managing to get him off scot free at the last second really, really bothered me, because not only did I find it wildly out of character (I don't think she ever truly stopped believing he was guilty, so she went against her better judgment) but the show really did appear to be saying, it's okay if your daddy murdered ( ... )

I recently fell in love with the show too...I went through all four seasons on DVD in like a month. But it definitely has its flaws, and the whole Zach thing was one of them. I actually really loved Zach - and Eric Millegan - and I was pretty heartbroken with that plot twist as a mechanism to get rid of the character. It was so very WTF, and the aftermath was even more fucked-up, you're right. Poor Zack! It's totes okay to escape from a mental institution, and to have your friends and an FBI agent take you out for coffee instead of hauling your ass back to prison! It's totes okay, because Zack didn't actually kill anyone - retcon makes everything okay ( ... )

I remember reading somewhere that Zack being the cannibal's apprentice was completely random and thrown in because they needed to wrap up the series (already cut short by the writer's strike.) I was really bitter about that because it feels like cheating, but I enjoy that the cast is expanded now, because they have the revolving door of regulars to do his job. (Who I like better? I got very cranky with Zack in season 3.)
