We were discussing an LJ post and after llennhoff  started by explaining to me that the work "kitsch" is an English word to which I replied "I'd never heard that word until I started moving in Jewish circles" he did a quick we search and found out... yep it is a German word to which he replied "you are right as always".

hello!! it is 'tablaqueen' here - Rhiannon really ;) - I changed my user name because a lot of weird russians had added me and this seemed more suitable too (it means 'Jewess' in Welsh), it seems to have dropped all my friends as well as the weird Russians so could you add me again please?

Actually, there was a question about the word "kitsch" on Jeopardy this morning. It is an English word, from the German (NOT the Yiddish). It means pretentious bad taste or something that exemplifies kitsch. The adjectival form is kitschy.

I'm mostly heard it in reference to Hollywood and related show business stuff (granted, this is a business that has a lot of Jews, but I've heard it from Gentiles too)..... I've also heard it about knickknacks and that sort of thing (clothing????)
