HTML help

I'm using FrontPage 2003.  I want to create a custom template for compugraph designs.  I have no experience  with real HTML.  When I search in help it gives me options to learn how to create a "frames" template or a "dynamic" template.  I have no idea which makes more sense for me.  Any advice?

LOL, the above is probably missing tons of information ( Read more... )

I have been a web/graphics designer for years now(going on 10), but I'm not up to date with the most recent coding(like php, etc...really, the more advanced stuff). If it's a basic website design, I can probably help you out. When do you need it by? Frontpage is really messy when it comes to web design, it uses more code than necessary and is really a WYSIWYG program. Let me know.

I'd like to see the website up and running by early August. Currently I have an idea of what I want but it is going to take a while for me to organize all the graphics Debbie has designed (hundreds), decide which "print-on-demand" store to use for which products for each design, to get the print-on-demand stores fully reorganized/created, and only then will I be ready to do the major work on the compugraph design website ( ... )

I learned html when I was 12 years old, the basics at least. And I've been working at it for 10 years, and am still not 'fluent'. I can hear you, it's a hard thing to learn.

I use AIM, but I'm usually on it on my phone. I work weird hours(3pm-up to midnight sun-thurs), so it's hard to get in touch with me on aim. I do check my email religiously though, so it may be better if you can't get my by AIM. my AIM is 'plz not pls' and my email is enfini@gmail.com

Try around 6 PM today. Since I have a week off, might I join as well? Rebecca would need to be back in HP around 7 in order to head off to work.

Sure you can go. We just need to figure out when to head out & I usually eat out while there. Originally plan was to arrive late lunch time (leaving here 11ish), have lunch, and then go to the kosher mall. We can aim to be back 6ish.

i've been watching another friend of mine struggle mightily with desktop publishing software in service of making a book; he's making progress, but the process reminds me that dealing with computers is so often an exercise in learning something so that you can learn something else so that you can learn something else so that you can learn what you need to get the job done. :) i hope that the offer of help up above works out!

all the best,
-steve

So true. Brain fog is not as bad as it was but still not good enough for me to feel fully up to the challenge.

It is cool to be finding I'm able to do a fair amount which means brain fog is not at all what it was even a year ago. So the good part is I'm reaching a point where learning new technology is getting to be a possibiltiy. And if I did not want something customized I could just use generic stuff. I may have to set the bar lower for now and not worry so much about "branding".

Intro to frames: http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/present/frames.html

A dynamic template allows you to write a custom page in a standard frame w/o writing tons of individual HTML pages. You can re-write the visible content in the same window w/o doing HTML.

Sorry I can't be of more help but I'm swamped with work!

There are several free WYSIWYG applications out there. I used Moonfruit for a chapter webpage for my sorority. My humble opinion is to keep doing it yourself because you don't want to have a site you will always need others to help you out with.

FrontPage is evil (by the way).

Yeah, I know I should struggle and learn. But with the chronic fatigue and wanting our site up ASAP rather then 6 months from now...

FrontPage is evil but it came with my MS office so it is what I've used for years. I just never do anything major with it.

Thanks for the moonfruit suggestion.
