Yesterday,
krayzj77,
redhead_jess and I went to the Asperagus Festival in Stockton. Woo, I thought, asperagus, my favorite thing.
We left early and arrived 30 minutes before the gates opened. We got a good parking spot in the arena garage, a few blocks from the gates.
Once we got in, we sat down and looked through the day's schedule. We knew we wanted to see the Skyy Dogs show. It was fun to watch the dogs perform tricks for us. They did flips as they caught frisbees and jumped a high jump (that was Angel, and after each jump she ran off to the nearby tent "for a drink of water.") The finale was the famous skateboarding bulldog, Tyson. (edit: changed the name to the right one, it wasn't trevor lol)
We then had a significant break in our itinerary before our next activity: the sea lion show. We went to Asperagus Alley for lunch. I had the asperagus burrito, while Jamie and Jeasica had the asperagus and tri tip sandwich. We all split an order of fried asperagus. Then we wandered the grounds and bought 5 dollar hats. The sun was bright and we needed the protection.
As we were walking we came across the booth for a delta cruise. Jessica wanted to go, and decided she wanted that more than the sea lions, so we decided we'd take the 2 o'clock cruise. We went to get more money from the ATM and purchased our desserts: cinnamon nuts for me, strawberry shortcake for Jessica, and a funnel cake for Jamie. It was getting close to two, so I went ahead of them to purchase the cruise tickets.
Heartbreak! When I got there, the 2 o'clock cruise was sold out. I waited around, thinking maybe someone wouldn't show. Just after jamie and Jessica caught up with me, a guy came to the booth and told the lady there that they still had three spots available on the cruise that was about to depart. I threw my hand into the air and said, "sold!" and we paid for our tickets. The lady was nice enough to stash the uneaten desserts for us and off we went!
When we got back an hour later, we had enough time to go back to the civic hall where they had set up the Celebrity Kitchen. That was my activity of choice. None other than my childhood hero, Martin Yan would be performing! We caught sight of him before the event started, and once I saw people going to get pictures with him, my heart started to skip. Jamie agreed to go up with me, and I got to meet him!!
88 years old and he doesn't look a day over 60!
His show was awesome. I decided that I wanted to buy his knife set. I got The Knife, a pair of kitchen scissors, a set of chopsticks, and a little book, which I then got autographed! I felt like a little girl the whole time.
After the show, we ran and made a couple last moment purchases. We got some asperagus pasta from the Alley and a sourdough crab from the Boudin booth.
We drove back to Sacramento and had dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory. Then we dropped Jessica off and went home, slightly burned, very exhausted, and totally happy. Everything went well for us yesterday. It was a most awesome day.
