Microfic: Celebrating

Jan 24, 2011 20:02

So I was capping “Preggers,” and even though Puck’s a jerk, that scene at the end of the game where he just heads off the field all alone still makes me sad.

Rolling her eyes, she watched Finn scamper over to Quinn, and when he leaned in to kiss her, she had to look away. Sure, they’d won their first game all season, but there was no need to be nauseating about it. She glanced at Brittany, who was still jumping up and down, giddy and waving at Kurt, who was blowing kisses from atop two of the meatheads’ shoulders.

That was no less nauseating.

Then she happened to glance back to the middle of the field, where Puck was standing alone, eyeing Quinn and Finn despondently. At first, she rolled her eyes again, but then she realized that Puck really was upset, as he wandered slowly off the field and away from his celebrating teammates.

Since Brittany was now trying to clamor up onto the guys’ shoulders with Kurt, she figured no one would miss her if she followed Puck. She caught him in the hall leading toward the locker rooms, and he spun around, startled, to scowl at her. “Hey,” she said, with a smile that he didn’t return.

“What’re you doing?” he asked.

“Uh, well, you just won your first game, and you went off to sulk like a big baby. Figured something was bothering you.”

“I’m fine,” he insisted, but she saw right through that. “Why do you care, anyway?”

“Puck,” she said quietly, but he just shook his head and turned around. “Hey! Come on. You scored that touchdown. We should be celebrating.”

He looked over his shoulder at her at the word celebrating and winked suggestively. She laughed and briefly hid her face in her pom poms. “Maybe,” she said with a smirk. “If you’re lucky.”

And he laughed and offered his fist, so she bumped hers against it, and they walked the rest of the way to the locker rooms together.
