Torchwood Series 2 ender thoughts...

So I saw "Exit Wounds" last night...

Wow.  Just...Wow...

Two big thoughts; first, Chris Chibnall has a massive pair.

Second, EW answers the question, "Would the episode in M*A*S*H where Colonel Blake is killed on the way home from Korea be just as much of a gut-punch if you knew it was coming?" with a resounding yes.

The events DO fit the tone that was intended for the show, as darker, and more adult than Doctor Who.  For all of its flaws on the exact nature of Owen's zombiehood, his arc was a great exploration on coping with loss, esp. the kind faced by a person when they face the development of some condition that changes their life utterly.  When all that he enjoyed in life was taken from him (think what a central part eating, esp. sharing a meal with others, plays in any culture's social interaction) Owen has to find something to be a new focus in his life, namely focusing on his work in Torchwood that saves the general public, talking a potential suicide off of the ledge (which gets further depth once you see "Fragments") and seemingly finding solace in the beauty of the alien device sent as an answer to the Voyager spacecraft.  While others grumbled about the ropey mechanics of Risen Mitten 2.0, I was stunned by the final shot of "A Day in the Death", it was beautiful.

The one thing that worries me now about the future of Torchwood is that now that the first half of the Sci-Fi pulse spoiler has been proven true, that the rumor about the change in tone that the show will take will be true as well.  I like the tone of T-wood as it is, and not just for thehot dude-on-dude action.  What I mentioned above was something only infrequently seen in Sci-Fi TV, at it would be a shame not to see this taken further.

Uncle Rusty, please don't shoot yourself in the foot.  Or Ianto.  More the second.
