I guess I've been watching the news too much lately, and we all know how emotional that gets...but we talked a lot about Hurricane Katrina at our sorority meeting tonight, and I am so burdened and upset right now. I worry about stupid stuff like friends and popularity, and stuff like this is going on. I just can't believe some of this stuff goes on ( Read more... )

It's been really rough. I have a friend who lives in New Orleans, and I haven't heard from her since the storm struck.

I'm sure your Campus Crusade or Young Life or something will start collecting a relief fund soon, and every little bit helps.

But really, prayer is a very strong way to help, your heart is in the right place.

Everyone has their own concern and worries even if they seem shallow. Try not to panic/worry so much about it, things are being done about it as we speak.
At where I work (comissary, its like a supermarket but for the military folk), they were already setting up a relief fund. When you first came in and showed your ID they gave you a slip with items that was needed. Or maybe just anything you thought that they might like. When you paid for everything, you put it in a box that was designated for that.
Everybody is trying to do every thing that they can.

mallory my heart is burdened as well. no words can express how much i understand what you've felt. there is nothing we can do to stop the chaos, pain, anger. simply throwing money at the problem doesnt fix it, and it seems that if we physically cant go and help where the need is, all we can do is pray. pray for peace, for order, for yeshua to use the disaster to bring more hearts to him and to soften others ( ... )

Mal, thats a perk of going to school in DC! Here everyone knows what is happening and wants to help. People need to take action not pray. One of the reasons for seperation of church and state is so that the government can't just pray as an alternative to actual action. Im probobly going on Habitat for Humanity during fall break. The reason I make the comment about prayer is because I feel as though there are many people who say this is so horrible but don't take action. Well done on the giving blood before you left. Thats the right idea.
