As for ridicule, I have often been able to come through in times when others had troubles and was able to remind them that I had been in Scouts.
As a matter of public relations, maybe people should be reminded of how Boy Scouts got their start. Weren't they, in fact, the eyes and ears of the military? Sure, there was the honour and integrity of helping others without hidden agenda of reward, as well as, being able to maintain calm while others choked. However, Scouts were training to aid the greater good. I realize today it is not as para-military as it may have once been, but there is order, discipline, and honour.
