I've been invoking FB's 30-day-snooze feature left & right over the past few days because my blue-voting acquaintances have been driving me quite mad with their endless quotations from Heather Cox Richardson.

I’m inviting you to be not okay with me. As Heather Cox Richardson says…I don’t know who Heather Cox Richardson is but her banal ( Read more... )

I think Iggy might be my current “favorite total stranger to hear gossip about.”

He is living his life in a way that is totally foreign to me and I am ENTHRALLED.

Your motto should be "I read the internet horror so you don't have to." I agree with you on SS and Medicare; only a political fool would try to yank those, because they'd never survive the next election. Interesting to hear your other ideas. The thing about gay people as a marginalized group is that they are born, largely, randomly into families of straight people, so it's hard to isolate them without resources as other groups are treated.

I was pondering gay acceptance a lot yesterday.

It's a cultural tolerance that owes a great deal to Hollywood, that spate of mainstream TV shows-Will & Grace, Glee etc.

It's those cultural influences that act as a buffer in times of oppressive political regimes-unless the oppressive political regime figures out a way to highjack those cultural influences.

It would take about five years to erode that general gay acceptance with the right scripts.

This article is very interesting in that regard:

No, it doesn't address gay acceptance specifically. But does speak about how entertainment choices translated into Trump support.
