Welcome ladies, gentlemen, to the Malnosso Assigment and Reward Center. That stands for MARS. Center may not start with an S, but it damn well should, once you sound it out. The Luceti program, that's you lot, was set up to include the best of the best. Heroes, geniuses, and all you other people. Special's the word the people in charge like to use ( Read more... )

An olive tree would be nice, actually.

So the scientists don't run the place, then? Because that's certainly the impression we've gotten.

Right now, nobody runs the place. But I'm not here for questions about the organization. You can hit up Bil for that one.

He hasn't been around much lately.

But can you answer questions about this new arrangement, then? Or, um, where we might find moon rocks?

Fielding questions about MARS is what I'm here for. As for the moon rocks, you'll have to work that one out on your own.

[He can't help but frown as he reads over the information presented by this new individual.]

Moon rocks?

[He needs a moment while he reads further.]

Rocks from the Moon. Untold potential there. Keep them somewhere safe, like under your bed.

[Untold potential. How ominous coming from a businessman. Especially with the comment about "feeling sane" next week.]

Let us say one volunteers for your missions, and receives a notification of their upcoming departure. Do they report somewhere, as has been done with drafts, or are they taken abruptly from the village?

This is volunteer only. When we want you, you'll find out on your journal. We'll give you one day's notice. Once you get it, you get yourself down to the tunnels within twenty-four hours and use the transporter. If you don't go down there, you miss out. And if you do, that's your own loss.

Oh great! Along with the involuntary crap we have ta deal with, we can actually sign ourselves up fer even more abuse. Hooray! Look at how happy you've made all the masochists here!

[He sighs.]
I guess this could be interestin', gives people something ta do anyway.

Abuse? We're completely human. Open and honest. Hell, you might even run into some reporters out there. We won't let you talk to them, but they'll sure as hell see you all having a good time being busy. Honest day's work! Nothing better than that.

A good time is what you've decided ta call it now? Somehow, I think yer open and honest became a little muddled up.

People too lazy to work need not apply.

Once you arrive, you'll get a packet with personnel information of who you'll be working with. Some Malnosso personnel to oversee things, as well as people from enclosures like this one. We've got our best people making sure we get compatible people working together. People science. It's amazing what people will go to college for.

...what's that bit about sanity and next week?

Just what it said on the tin, son. My job here is to talk about MARS. That's it.

How troublesome... [He's going to keep it in mind, though. 8|]

Well in that case, what measures are being taken to make sure volunteers will only be given assignments that they can handle?

Tons of research. Spent a hell of a lot of money to make sure we'd know just what you people are capable of.
