I want to talk to those of you who summon. With tomes, staves, contracts, whatever. If you've ever drawn a being in from another dimension and you have a desire to do it here, we need to chat.

I have a proposition for you.

You have a connection to your world, even as you stay here. That's why it's possible to synthesize items from it, why the Organization knows all about you without even having spoken to you, and why occasionally some people go home. Think of it kind of like a wire connecting your world to you.

Now, the very fact that you're still here and not there is not good. Wires are not supposed to lead from one world to another. However, the damage from that is usually minimal and can be self-mended. The longer you stay and the more you're experimented on, the more stressful it is, but still, should be all right.

When you actually draw something from your world, you'd be bringing it here with its own wire. Not only that, but once you finish summoning, you would have to send it back. Like I said, worlds are not meant to be connected to others in this specific way, and therefore aren't meant to have all that traffic. I'm not getting into the messy details of it, but with every summon, you'd be pulling your world apart at the seams and ( ... )

That all makes a pretty good amount of sense, but I do have two questions.

Would it be the same or worse to summon something from our world that is...insignificant, and small? Something that wouldn't be missed, or even noticed if it were to be gone?

And what about a permanent summon?

I need some context.

I have a bird back home, which has two different forms, and acts like a summon would. Only the people who I live with know about it, but it's not like anybody would notice if it were around or not.

And it's a permanent summon. I only need to call it once for it to stay, since I take care of it. Would that be the same here?

I'm not sure that'd be a good idea. Let me see if I can look anything up on it.

In your...hm, expert opinion, has that bird got a soul?

Make sure to tell me if you learn anything, then.

...I think I might have to say no...unless a God has a soul as well.

Gods usually do.

Well...I can't say for sure. I've never read anything on that subject in all the books I've studied.

How much of a difference would that make though?

Hm, you've got a point. "Soul" really isn't the correct term, anyhow. Just the closest.

How about this; what exactly does it do? Your little bird-thing.

There are other terms, yeah, but I wouldn't be able to say on those either.

Kazusa. She can do normal tasks such as running a message to someone in flying distance, or even stand in for me in a fight.

Kazusa...

Mmph, I don't even know how to measure that sort of thing from here... Is she at least sentient? Reasonably so?

Yeah, she is.

Then it's a pretty big risk that I think you should leave be.

Darn.

Mind telling me why that makes a big difference though?

Well, usually smaller, simpler creatures aren't as likely to have the same characteristics as all of you. AKA, the very reason why you're in this enclosure and not living out a sheltered life in some city somewhere else on this planet. The more likely they are to have those characteristics, the worse it is for them to stay here.

So it would be just as bad as summoning someone from back home, and having them sent back...which would screw things up, right?
