Thanks! ;) It's up for grabs, along with a couple others. The trailers and stills were so pretty, I knew there'd be something to love even if the movie had been really stupid...
I was nervous, going to see it, thinking that it would be just like the book, but in a way that contradicted how I'd imagined. But with all the ways it varied from the book, I could totally just giggle and love the whole thing. It didn't take the words out of the book and put them on screen; there were completely new parts. It was like finding out that every time I've read it, a bunch of pages were stuck together and I finally realized it and discovered a whole different wonderful scene.
And Ford's use of "Belgium" was spectacular. I was glad to be in a theatre full of fans who understood, instead of newbies whispering, "Why does he keep saying 'Belgium?'"
I could have done without the Arthur/Trillian thing. I think it was slightly implied in the books, and it was fun to 'ship hopelessly for them. And now to see it, I'm like "mer."
All in all, great. And the dolphins' "So Long, and Thanks For All the Fish" number was priceless.

Exactly. And I assume almost all of the great new world-building was from the work DNA had done on the script. I wonder if they'd be able to make a sequel movie that'll live up to this one, since there isn't going to be any more new material from DNA. (*sniffle*)
Just before I scrolled past this, I was thinking, "Next time I see Mal, I should ask her whether she knows Torch wrote SGA," but seeing as you have her friended, I reckon you do know.
Of course I'm familiar with the books, but lately a local PBS station has been playing the Hitchhiker's Guide TV series, which I'm enjoying very much. It's nice to hear that at least a few people got something out of the movie; on my flist it's been mostly either accusations of infidelity or squees about Alan Rickman.
