LJ Idol - Week 18 - Inspiration

When you are 18, you're invincible.  When you are 18, you have to try to tempt fate to walk the edge of the cliff and find the danger that isn't there.  When I was 18, my fascination in cemeteries was brought to life again.

As a child, I always watched out the window each time we passed the cemetery, and looked to see where my grandmother was ( Read more... )

I love cemeteries. I used to be a television reporter and I did as many stories on cemeteries as I possibly could. The history of them mixed in with the spooky possibilities. I love it.

There's so much to love about cemeteries. I used to pass three on my way to school every morning. Two were across the street from each other and eventually were bought out by the same company who now takes care of them.

I used to walk cemeteries with my friends. There's something about them... Though it's more for paying respect to people and considering the life they led, there is something so fascinating about an old cemetery.

Sounds like a creepy experience nonetheless! What a great memory!

Now that I'm a bit more mature, I have a lot more respect for cemeteries. Oddly, when I visited my grandmother's grave, I was always respectful, but that raising didn't show in our trip to Mouth. I'm just glad we didn't vandalize anything, like many other teens do. The horseheads on the gate are gone, filed off by teens, many gravestones are broken, the benches are broken, etc, all by teens.

That 110 year old Indian woman died in the early 1900s, if I remember right. Can you imagine everything she must have seen?

I would love to go back to Mouth now that I'm older, and truly can appreciate it.

This is so creepy! I enjoyed how you mingled the actual history of the cemetery with the trip you and your friends took.

Oh man. I am not a believer in the supernatural, but I also have a healthy dose of "don't tempt fate". Too many horror movies, I guess. I don't go into graveyards at night, EVER.

Your experiences sound so lovely, though, and this is a very nice tribute to cemetaria.

Graveyards are so peaceful at night. Sadly many are closed and it's unlawful to enter them past sundown, because of vandalism and vagrancy.

Thank you very much! I hope cemetaria likes it!

Loved this :) I love walking through really, really old cemeteries. Only in daylight though!

Thank you! I love it as well, and now most of my trips are made in daylight, too.
