they said 'no presents this year'. but as per usual, none of them ever kept to their promise. a whole month would pass by and leeteuk would always, always, always wonder what to buy kangin for that one special day.

he would always have the most trouble finding presents for him because he never really wished for anything special. and this year was no exception, much to leeteuk's dismay.

kangin was out most of the day; his work had called him in for a couple of hours, but it was perfect because then leeteuk would have enough time to set everything up he needed.

as soon as he'd left, leeteuk went to work. they hadn't had time or money to buy a christmas tree - because well, with leeteuk being a freelance photographer and kangin being a clerk at the local supermarket, they weren't exactly on the high end of things. instead, though, leeteuk had gotten hold of a small mistletoe complete with a red bow.

he smiled as the mistletoe hung proudly above the front door of their apartment, knowing that kangin would most likely find it cheesy as hell but would secretly love it.

returning to the bedroom, leeteuk sat down on his knees in front of the closet and pulled out a small box, carefully setting aside the lid.

inside was a small, gold frame with a picture of the two of them. it was a picture of what had become their first kiss. they'd ended up somehow - leeteuk really couldn't remember why - in one of those cheap picture taking booths. it had been a spur of the moment thing and hadn't really been anything serious, but as soon as they'd entered the booth the mood had turned serious, their proximity way too close for comfort and somehow they'd ended up kissing. it was a fond memory that was still vivid in leeteuk's mind, despite it being a couple of years ago.

with a soft, reminiscing smile on his lips, he let his fingers brush over the surface, feeling the love and hope for the future they shared blossoming in his heart all over again.

he gently put the picture frame back into the box and put the lid on, arranging the silk bow on top so it looked just perfect.

tonight was going to be a special night.

leeteuk heaved a burdened sigh as he sat beside the window, looking at his wrist watch for what must have been the fiftieth time that night.

kangin wasn't home yet; he was late. it had already turned 11:34 PM and there was a feeling of dread, gnawing in the pit of leeteuk's stomach. it had been two hours since he was supposed to be home and he hadn't even contacted him yet.

he was worried and wanted to bolt out the door but refrained reluctantly. he had faith in christmas and its miracles - they would bring kangin back to him. there was nothing wrong.

"ahjusshi, you have to let me buy it. please, it's the only thing i need this christmas. i'll pay double the price, you name it. i just really, really need it."

the salesman wrinkled his nose, puffing out a warm breath of air in the cold, seoul night - a sigh and then the door was unlocked. "alright kid. you're lucky these are holiday times."

grinning triumphantly, the young man clapped his hands together and bowed his head.

"thank you! thank you, thank you, thank you! i won't forget this!"

when the clock struck twelve, leeteuk was officially panicking. he paced around the living room, biting at his nails frantically. it had started snowing heavily a while ago and he knew the roads must have been hell to drive on but that didn't do anything for his poor heart.

the worst of it all was: kangin's phone was off.

he had no way of contacting him and it was driving him nuts. what if kangin was lying in a drench somewhere? hurt and unable to call for help? what if something really bad had happened? what if he was....

a sound at the door had leeteuk physically starting and he turned to stare, wide-eyed at the hallway.

"jesus christ. i don't think it's ever snowed this hard before." kangin said with a shudder of cold in his voice, shutting the door behind him as he pulled off his jacket.

he caught sight of leeteuk, standing in the middle of the living room and staring at him like he'd seen a ghost. honestly, the sight was a little unnerving.

"hyung?" he questioned with a raise of an eyebrow.

before he could take another step inside though, leeteuk was already in front of him; arms slung tightly around his neck and lips firmly planted on his own. kangin blinked a few times before his arms wound around the smaller man's waist and he returned the kiss automatically.

"don't you ever scare me like that again." leeteuk sobbed as he broke the kiss, wiping at his eyes. kangin chuckled softly, reaching up to cup the older man's cheeks in his palms. "i'm sorry i didn't call hyung. work held me up for a couple more hours."

he earned a small punch at his chest for that and laughed breathlessly, smiling at the small smile that formed on leeteuk's soft lips. "idiot."

kangin couldn't do anything but agree as he wiped away a few tears with his thumbs, leaning in to kiss the older man's forehead. "crybaby." he murmured against his skin.

shaking his head, leeteuk laughed a little and pulled away, leading kangin into the living room. "come get your present, you idiot."

"but hyung, i thought you said no present this year." kangin argued, being forced into the couch.

"i lied." leeteuk smiled innocently, pulling a box out from underneath the coffee table and presented it to him. kangin took it with a scowl but carefully pulled the lid of nonetheless.

what stared out at him surprised him a little bit. he gently took a hold of the picture frame, removing the plastic around it. "this is..."

leeteuk nodded, sitting himself beside kangin on the couch. "our first kiss. i brought the picture to the photo shop downtown and asked if they could enlarge it without ruining the quality."

kangin stared at the picture with a small smile on his face, remembering well how that day had gone by. looking up at the same face beside him, he could feel his heart pounding - the love he felt for his lover hadn't diminished one bit since that day.

"thank you, jungsoo. i love it."

seeing leeteuk's face light up like it did after that, kangin thought, was already the most perfect christmas he'd ever experienced.

"i got you something too." despite leeteuk's protests, kangin fished out a small box from his shirt pocket, eliciting a small gasp from the older man at his side.

"youngwoon, what is this?" he questioned, fingering the small, velvet-y box. it was obvious he was nervous but kangin just grinned and nudged him to proceed.

leeteuk's heartbeat doubled as he slowly opened the box with slightly shaking fingers; not really knowing what to expect. but as the silver polished ring came into sight, leeteuk gasped once again, a hand drawing over his mouth in shock.

kangin shifted onto the floor in front of him, taking the box and removing the ring from it. "i'm not asking anything from you." he started softly, gazing up into those shining, brown eyes that looked back at him with wonder and complete surprise.

"but," he said, a coy smile on his lips as he slipped the ring onto leeteuk's ring finger. "if you feel like making our life permanent," another gasp escaped leeteuk's lips and kangin was a bit amused, but touched as well at the tears that were evidently gathering at corners of the older man's eyes.

"i'd love it if you'd want to marry me."

a second or two passed before leeteuk sobbed out an emotional 'yes, yes, yes, of course i will', his arms slung around kangin's shoulders in a tight hug.

they made love that night, feeling like the world was theirs to take together and feeling like their love was going to keep them afloat during all the good and the bad times to come.

and if they only had each other in the world, that would be enough.
