Who needs taste?

Dec 21, 2020 11:05

So yesterday I lost my sense of smell and taste my husband says I’m mad about it. Not inaccurate. I have been using the “smelly” body wash as my morning test and yep-nothing. I can detect salty, mouth textures, and sweet. I still get hungry but meals just aren’t a pleasure because-no taste. I can *almost* taste peanut butter if I run air through my mouth. (If you’ve owned a dog or cat you’ll recognize this behavior)

I’m relying on habits to make sure our house doesn’t stink up too much. Frank has to tell me when the garbage reeks. Spraying bleach in the bathroom makes my nose run but-I wouldn’t know to run away from a chemical bomb. Because he also has been infected, it makes doing things easier in the house. Initially, I had to use a different bathroom and utensils but unfortunately by the time I was diagnosed and symptoms emerged-too late. So when we reach the halfway point in March I suspect we will do a purge of the Hunt plague house. We are not sure how to handle doing laundry but Frank has been using grocery pickup and that has been better than expected. As a friend joked “we know that your delivery curse is well and active.”

HR called this morning and they are going to discuss if I can work from home after the new year. I was honest with her, I think a lack of smell will not impact my ability to edit videos, answer calls, or do meetings. I am hoping they don’t make me take family leave. As we’ve been discussing on the Meet channel (we’re like a circle of little old ladies, even the guys) the school wants to be “more corporate” but is doing it in the worst ways possible. It’s not the greatest career goal to just want to finish my years into retirement with the college but I like varying skillsets and there aren’t many jobs that offer that.

We let the troupe know and I’m letting people know organically.

TMI TO FOLLOW (you were warned)
We both have stuffed noses. Our coughs to clear phlegm make us sound like we are being strangled. And Thank Goodness we have two separate bathrooms. It is not uncommon for us both to look up at one another 20 minutes after a meal and at that moment decide who shall use the closer and who shall use the further bathroom. For those who like cleanses-well definitely happening here. My vertigo is worse but that is true at this time of year and when my sinuses are acting up.

Super pissed about the loss of taste/smell. I bought myself a special meal for my holidays and now I won’t be able to taste it. But I am grateful that my symptoms aren’t worse. Frank and I are generally in bed by 8:00am EST. I tend to sleep more and sweat more.
