I often struggle with my tendency to go for darker guys. There are so many reasons it could be racist, but I think you're right when you say that the only boundary we should be concerned with is the humanity one. I abhor the concept in white culture that "asians are for fucking, not dating" for that very reason. I would never think that about the latino/Mediterranean/arab/etc guys I usually go for...I see them as simply a generally slightly more attractive "race," nothing more or less. And I'm pretty sure if I am off the hook on this one, then you were never near the hook to begin with.

i don't know if i would say that the *only* boundary i'm concerned with is the humanity one... b/c i think the "we're all human" defense is often used to justify a lot of fucked up racist shit... it's more that i'm suggesting that the desire itself might not be the problem... the problem is more in how it's channeled by social systems/ dominant culture, etc. And I also don't think we can ever really function as fully autonomous individuals within that context... b/c we're shaped by that context and aren't ever able to fully think outside it. But we can... you know... try to make more conscious decisions.

your response cracks me up tho... especially "I'm pretty sure if I am off the hook on this one, then you were never near the hook to begin with."

admit it... you're the one who keeps posting the messages to Ron Huberman on craigslist missed connections. i saw his picture on your wall. :-P
