Lots of people are extraordinarily ignorant about the simple practicalities of every-day life. I shop in a large supermarket near a university campus; every October I notice new (usually male) students wandering around in twos and threes looking completely bemused - it's very obvious they've never had to shop for themselves in their lives and the contents of the supermarket shelves are a mystery to them. I would wager they've never cooked or cleaned for themselves either, and how clothes get clean may well be something of a mystery.

I blame their mothers.
