Several years ago, one of my clients was a 12 year old girl, who was going to be going to family court so her grandparents could gain some visitation rights. She did not want any contact with her grandparents. I worked with her on her anxiety about facing her grandparents, etc. Those particulars are not important. She lived in a different county than me, and the hearing was to be in an entirely different county from both of us.
I happened to attend a cont. ed. course while I was working with this client; it took place in Pittsburgh and the topic was on divorce. I went alone, and usually for these things there is a continental breakfast. I was enjoying my coffee and a pastry when a woman struck up an conversation with me-networking is a common occurance.
Turned out this woman would be the court assigned person to represent my client in the upcoming hearing. How's that for synchronicity!

Although I don't have a social work degree, I have attended some of those cont. ed. classes and have met some incredible folks.
