I've been doing some knotwork practice, in preparation for illuminating scrolls for the SCA (they use the donated blanks to make award certificates). It's been extremely engrossing and I've hit
flow twice in the last two days... it's really been wonderful. Linc has actually been totally easy during these periods... I'm in the basement with him, and he just putters with paints, clay, Legos, games, musical instruments, books... whatever catches his eye at the time.
We had some people come over last night for boardgames, and I think we'll try to make this happen on a regular basis. Maybe every Thursday? It would give me good motivation to do a once-over on the house each week, like the knitting playgroup did in Kansas City. Also, more games! We have all these wonderful games we hardly ever look at, and while FB Scrabble is fun, it's so much better face-to-face.
I had an interesting experience during meditation this morning. The Zen Timer thing started and then crashed, but I was kinda in a groove and just kept on without my bells... and after maybe 20 minutes, I sank into a place of calm, with a sort of floaty sensation that I don't remember having reached before. I do recognize it, though... there are times when I'm going to sleep that I sometimes have this really lovely sensation, just hovering on the brink before falling into unconsciousness, simultaneously light and heavy, bright and dark... feels almost like I'm on a tightrope. I had no idea you could do this with meditation, though!
Looks like all kinds of good things can happen to your brain on meditation (layman-friendly article, pdf).
