i know exactly one woman who ever complained to me about her skinny figure and not only do i believe her but i also realized for the first time that people who are not gaining weight are just as unhappy as overweight people. there's nothing they can do about it, you wouldn't stuff your mouth with sweets all day just to gain weight, would you? neverminding the fact that it doesn't help anyway. overweight people as least can loose weight, whereas underweight people can't easily gain it (unless, of course, they're suffering from eating disorders - that can be cured as well).

Yes, I agree. I know very few girls who are complaining about being skinny, whether they're truly happy with themselves as they are or because media and society is telling them they are as they should be so they accept it.

But I must disagree that it's easier to lose weight than to gain it, I know from personal experience.
I have a feeling that society is telling us that losing weight is a MUST but if you need some extra weight, it's OPTIONAL. They just say "you could use few kgs more". I think in both cases some professional help is needed, like nutritionist, to balance out each person's body needs.

but what if people aren't able to gain weight because their metabolism is running rampant because that's the case with the girl i mentioned. i'd find that very difficult.

Yes I know about that, and that's alright. But I think despite the fast metabolism, body still craves the energy to be put in, so I don't think people with fast metabolism would come to anorexic looking state. Also, what about people with thyroid gland problems? :)

Sadly, advertising is based upon the concept that you wish to feel like "the ideal" and hence you will purchase products that imply they can provide that result. Otherwise, why would you buy them ( ... )

i love this entry.

the company that owns dove (unilever) also sells products in india that promote the idea of skin lightening (http://www.unilever.com.my/ourbrands/personalcare/fairandlovely.asp) which is seriously disgusting to me.

I hadn't really thought about all the backlash there, but you're right--it's a very good point.

Course, the only thing I really need to have in anybody I'm dating is a brain, but that's just me.

Don't be so modest. Everybody has a brain. Look for someone who knows how to put it to use :D

That's what I meant :-)

I've met a lot of women who don't use their brain--instead, they use various feminine wiles to try and get me--and that doesn't impress me or interest me.

I guess I like a challenge. :-P
