Weight issues...

Hey ladies, I am actually looking for some help for my sister in law and niece.  Here is the email that she sent me.  What do you think?  Some history:  Hannah was born about 8 lbs.  She's exclusively breastfed.  My sister in law and brother are both very thin.  Their older daughter Carolena started out big but is not that big now, considering how ( Read more... )

Hmmmm. I'm not sure. There are so many reasons to wait to start a child on solids ...

Are you involved with the breastfeeding community? I am sure they will be entirely against starting solids. But you might get some people who were in similar situations who have advice.

12 lbs seems so tiny for a baby 4 months old! But all the babies in my family are on the HUGE side of the spectrum, so my perspective may be a bit skewed.

Thank you. I'm not involved with that community, but you're right that might be a place to look for some advice. My sister in law is against starting solids, but I can understand her questioning, given how small my niece is. I'm worried too! My SIL is so tiny though that I'm not surprised she has small children. It's just hard when they're telling you that your baby is not getting enough or something. Anyway, thanks.
