What exactly is the point of buying a new mattress when you buy a crib used?  I bought a used crib and mattress, and I want to make sure I am not making a mistake not buying a mattress new.

Thanks ladies!

i dont know why anyone buys new stuff to be honest. when we have our next kid seriously we will be buying NOTHING at all. in hindsight half the stuff we have we dont "need". i think we just get overhyped when we're pregnant with what we WANT.

I would guess that new mattresses are purchased because it's difficult to clean an old mattress. If a kid pees on a mattress, it might be wiped up, but the mattress has still absorbed some. I'm not sure if I would buy a new mattress or not. I guess it would depend on how old it is and how many kids used it. I intend to use my crib mattress from kid to kid. But if you've ever seen the inside of a used mattress, it can be pretty gross. Old skin dust and all ...
