ONE SHOT - Nigh Inseparable

One-shot written for some challenge, long past. A view of the Locker from the Black Pearl’s POV.

“No wind.”
Her Captain strode angrily away from where she lay, careened on an endless stretch of sand.
“Of course there’s no bloody wind!”
The heat of the sun beat down upon them. The two of them, marooned in this godforsaken place. Nigh inseparable they were…are.
“The Captain goes down with his ship.”
He’d made a deal with the devil himself …raised her from her watery grave. Now they were together…for eternity.
“Turns out, not even Jack Sparrow could best the devil.”
No wind, no water…just salt and sand, stretching to the horizon.
“Let go and haul to run free.”
She remembered the words as if yesterday. Freedom. Not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, no she was more than that…to her Captain she was Freedom.
“Now bring me that horizon.”
He had crooned those last words, hands lovingly caressing her wheel.
She lay there, helpless in the sand watching her Captain suffer the delusions of isolation. Wishing, wishing she could once again give him his freedom, wind in her sails, setting course for that far horizon.
“Now we’re being followed by rocks.”
She felt the slight shift in her keel as slowly she returned upright. Suddenly she was moving, yes moving! Through the sand, carried on the backs of a multitude of crabs. Her majestic bow casting shadows across her fallen Captain. He wakes in wonder, then run to catch up.
“It’s the Captain!”
She crests the dunes, her Captain standing proudly on her yardarm, the sea…the beautiful sea waiting for them. There is a breeze, the wind blows back his hair and fills her sails. With a shudder and moan of joy she is once again afloat.
“Weigh anchor, all hands, prepare to make sail!”
Her sails swell with the words as she waits her Captain’s hand on the wheel, guiding her onward. Nigh inseparable they are…and will be. From the desolation of delusion and back, together forever.
