Yes, stealing fanfiction is STILL Plagiarism!

As some of you are aware, two of my stories, Through a Glass Darkly and the Scarlett & Giselle Series were ripped off verbatim, with just the POTC names changed and posted at another site. I am not sure whether to be mad or flattered.

They even stole my OC's and damn it ! They are mine!
I contacted the administrator of the site and both stories were removed immediately as well as a third that was pilfered from another site. But from what I can tell, the perpetrator is still being allowed to run his comm and has not been banned from posting. So I imagine he will be shopping around for another tale to steal.

I eventually received an apology from him, stating he had hired a “ghost writer” to write the stories, even though he’d been bragging on the forum he belongs to that he’d written them and was even being encouraged to publish “Dark Reflections”.

MY story, by the way.

After receiving the apology, I wondered whether this guy was sincere or not. My gut reaction was he was just “role playing” when he wrote it. (Or more likely “hired” a ghost writer to do it).

So, my minions and I did a bit of sleuthing. Now, I have to tell you that these are very tenacious minions and they took the administration and the defenders of this plagiarist to task in his own playground.

Not good. We were all banned from the site. (They obviously condone plagiarism in their realm of the internet.)

But not before we found out some very interesting things. Such as the fact he has not only stolen my stories but others as well. Who knows how many. But I was able to track down two I was familiar with.

I’ve contacted the true author of those stories in hopes something can be done. In the meantime, be aware there is a plagiarist in our midst that has no qualms about stealing your hard work and creative efforts.

One good thing came out of it all. I found out that my stories can stand the test of removal from the fandom and still be viable and interesting to others. That and the fact that Through a Glass Darkly had over 1200 hits over there is testimony to the story being at least readable.
