“…for there is nothing mysterious to a seaman unless it be the sea itself, which is the mistress of his existence and as inscrutable as Destiny.”
~Joseph Conrad

You know of Davy Jones, yes? A man of the sea, a great sailor…until he run afoul of that which vexes all men.
A woman. He fell in love.
I heard it was the sea he fell in love with.
Same story, different versions, and all are true. It was a woman as changing and harsh and un-tamable as the sea.
The sea, whose tides ebb and flow with the pull of the moon. The sea, on whose surface mighty ships ride, but in whose depths sailors meet their death, and monsters conceal themselves.
The sea, unstable and threatening, she spawns new life, yet swallows up lives. The sea hold onto her secrets, remains a mystery, therein lies her power.
As changeable as the moon, a cruel mistress, she has called men throughout eternity.
For the men who heed the siren call of the sea, there can be no other love.
