Double Drabble - What Friends Are For

“You did it for me.”

“Well, I couldn’t just let you die, mate.”

“You held your own immortality in your hand and you gave that up.”

“Aye, but don’t go thinking you’re something special. Might be I just wasn’t ready to do the job.”

“And now you are?”

“Perhaps. Death has a way of reshuffling one’s priorities.”

“So you’d give up your life, your freedom, so I can be free?”

“Isn’t that what you want? You went and married the wench, er… woman. I’ve heard you’ve a son, looks just like you. Don’t you want to spend your eternity with them?”

“Yes. Of course.”

“Well, there you go. I take your place on the Dutchman, and you’re free to be with your charming murd…mistress.”

“I won’t leave you, Jack. Not like this. There has to be another way.”

“And you have a better idea.”

“We’ll find a way. Trust me.”

“Haven’t  I always? Don’t answer that.”

“No one will believe it.”

“Course they will.”

“Perhaps we can ask Calypso.”

“I’m not sure that’s such a good idea. You know how goddesses are, fickle, capricious.”

“Then we’ll just have to find our own way. Another soul willing to do the job.”
