Drabble - Forsaken

Apr 13, 2009 23:07

A myriad of stars bejewelled the tranquil sea. Bedazzled, the lone boatman gazed into their starry depths. Did he too feel the beckoning of the silent sky, mirrored in the divine curtain fallen between them? Or feel the pull on his missing heart?

“Fair winds and a following sea, and a shining star to guide me. True love will await for me, if ever I might find thee…”

Words learned long ago echoed in the emptiness of his heart; sharp, piercing silence his only companion.

Alone, forsaken, adrift in melancholy, he raised a toast to the gods above… and below.
