Joy today:  Staying at home to read and meditate, instead of going to meetings and events. Sometimes a few peaceful hours can really make the world look better, or at least more potentially better...

 I had never heard of the Icelandic version of Stoker's Dracula--evidently he participated in the differences that we can see in this translation and added some things to  it!

 Joy of the day (early, so I don't forget): Socks. I love socks. Pretty grey smartwools with delicate designs, strange veggie knee socks from who knows where, soft cushiony thurlos for my walking shoes, old cotton ones I don't mind getting holes in...socks are a daily joy, until it gets too warm to wear them...

Joy of today:  Making big revisions in the plot of the never-ending novel, and eating crystalized ginger to fortify me!  

And we thought things couldn't get any worse.  

Driving back from a retreat Sunday, I took a back road and came upon the little town of Bowman, SC, which features a Welcome Center for UFO's. In case the sign's not legible, it says "Welcome to Planet Earth Space People."

 I was at a Buddhist retreat over the weekend and then yesterday catching up, so here are a bunch of joys:

• Watching the sunrise while waiting to start morning meditation
• 36 hours of silence, except the teachings 
• Great feeling of peace from absence of all news

 Joys of yesterday (forgot to post, so two): Really fast walk with Bill on the track at the place where I went to junior high and also where, 30 years later, he first asked me out.  Also, reading 4th great mystery by Louise Penny. Set in a little town in Quebec province, with a fascinating detective. Don't know why this hasn't become a PBS series ( Read more... )

 Joy of the day: Finally getting to meet with both my groups at the prison--we had to switch to a new time because they weren't being released at the old time, and this seems to work. At least for now, but that's a joy, compared to going out there and sitting for hours and not getting to see anyone.
