Phone Bank Experience

The election has me worked up. I have never before cared so passionately about a candidate. Because for the first time I feel that the candidate cares about ME. I loved Bill Clinton. I voted for him (my first time voting was his re-election!). I felt that Bill had a compassion, respect and an understanding of the people. So he won my respect, and ( Read more... )

I've had people that were sort of annoyed at being called and having their doorbells rang but overall, the whole experience has been FANTASTIC. I've spoken to some undecided voters who sincerely wanted to discuss the issues and even some McCain supporters who wanted a civil discussion about Obama's political stance.

Some people weren't aware of early voting and it was nice to keep them informed.

With the exception of one door slammed in my face and one rabid anti-abortion asshole, I've had an excellent time getting out and seeing how many people are excited about politics again and hopeful that things will improve in this country.

It gives me a happy.

That's exactly what it does. A happy. I has one.

I had one rather vicious McCain supporter yesterday who wanted to go on and on about Obama's plans to destroy Israel. But otherwise, I had one guy say "Well, I'm actually voting for McCain so I'd like to just hang up now if you're ok with that." I told him no problem and enjoy your day. I had one McCain supporter who merely said, "Oh, no I'm not for Obama, I'm for McCain." And I said ok, and civilly told me good-bye. And then one old woman who said it was a shame that people would call and demand that people vote for someone. I tried to tell her that wasn't why I was I was calling but oh well.

All in all, I would have taken 100 hundred calls like that in exchange for all of the people that I gave the correct information to, and that thanked me for clearing up their confusion.

Aww, that's so awesome to read about!!

Since I've got a landline (which is apparently shocking to a lot of my friends, but I work from home, so need one), I've gotten a lot of calls this election season. But I think they've been all Democrat, so I've been able to be all "yep, voting that way" or lately "yep, already voted", which is quick and easy.

I think the calls are definitely getting more localized the closer to the election, and the swing states are what are really being hit. My entire list was Florida, and between us we had only Florida and Pennsylvania. And it was just a random distribution of lists.

I felt bad when people sounded annoyed at receiving ANOTHER call, but it's just so important. If I had felt like I wasn't informing anyone I would have stopped. But so many people were confused or misinformed. I knew I had to push on.

You are part of my heart. I like that you were/are willing to give information no matter who they were voting for. I voted a couple of weeks ago. Hope you don't get so swept up that you forget to vote yourself!

I already set my alarm for 5:30a.m.! NY opens at 6a.m. I wish we had gotten to do early voting.

Actually, I wish I was registered in Florida or another battleground state.

Dad told me once that people died so I could vote. Coming from someone who doesn't get to vote, it really hit me. So I would never deny someone the information or the right to vote for whomever they feel is best.

I just really really hope Obama wins. I can't fathom the other conclusion.

As said elsewhere, I'm really pleased, and very proud, that you got to do this ( ... )
