the end of an era....

Jun 02, 2010 22:01

In the summertime, I try NOT to get on the 101 until 6:30 pm at the earliest, or I will face a 45 minute commute.  Today, I left around 7 pm. When i turned on KLIV 1590 (better traffic reports for Santa Clara County) I ended up getting the weekly Rotary Club broadcast ( Read more... )

That really is too bad. I liked that terminal.

Having to take stairs onto the tarmac always made it seems like my vacation had started in Sunny Califonia. Its way more fun to get off a plane that left in a Blizzard to a blast of hot air and the afternoon sun beaming down.

now, about the only semi-major airport for that would be Burbank. Although, I don't know if Long Beach has 'em. SoCal folks?

I've gotten so used to cookie cutter airports. On the 24th, I'm going through Milwaukee---never been there! (but have been to Wisconsin)

New icon? I like it.

Give my regards to AC. I'm gonna miss everyone.

I hate it when little pieces of history go. But I am sure a lot of San Joseans are saying "good riddance." Some people just don't understand the significance of the past. Even when it's fairly recent.

who's going to keep me from parking illegally????..(grin)

progress marches on, and I still can take a southwest puddle jumper into Burbank for my tarmac fix...(grin)

also, if this means that AirTran might come to SJC, that's a good thing...

This summer I might just have to toss together a bag and try out Alaska's nonstop to Spokane...I have one free Alaska flight---

I can send you a box that says "DON'T PARK THERE!" =^_~=

There ya go. Burbank is a nice airport.

Ahh, now there's progress.

You will be most welcome when you come. I've taken that flight. It's quite nice. :)

definitely not the same...that was definitely one of my top ten moments of that con. What you didn't know is that I was in searing pain throughout most of the show....this one will probably go much better just due to lack of pain.

I hope you have a great summer regardless...

I have to say that KC has a nice airport. It's not overly huge, the three terminals are designed so that you don't _need_ trams and such, and if you're a gimp, the airlines take good care of you so you're not standing in line for baggage inspection and such.

Albuquerque, on the other hand, is HUGE. The public entrance is about 1/4 of a walking mile from the terminals and the slideway doesn't cover that much territory. Also, if you're wheelchair bound you're going to have a hard time getting around since everything is cobble stone. It sure looks nice, but man is it a pain. Reminded me a lot of Miami Int Airport.

As you say, though, the trick is to (hopefully) get through flying in/out of an airport without wanting to bash your head against the wall to dull the pain. ;)

Cheers!

no walkways at SJC mammallamadevil June 5 2010, 00:36:01 UTC
they took 'em out due to cost overruns. Turns out they had a surplus--my comment was "hey, put the walkways back in!"

I know the feeling of losing an historic building. I'm still ticked off at Detroit for demolishing Tiger Stadium. It was only one of the two oldest professional ballparks in the world, but the city council couldn't demolish it fast enough when they learned the building's steel could be sold as scrap for a high price.

that had Hank Greenberg, Kirk Gibson, and Jim Leyland involved with them at some point...(grin)

I guess Dodger Stadium will suffer the same fate some day..(frown)
