oh, and while I'm at it, will someone please explain to me what makes Twitter so appealing? I'm just not...feeling it.

This pretty much sums up my opinion on Twitter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN2HAroA12w&feature=channel_page

I'd like to thank every person on my LJ f-list that doesn't have Twitter updates posted to their LJ.

Twitter is kind of silly and can be annoying, but it is also an easy target for (somewhat unjustified) ridicule. It works as a means of staying connected with others in their everyday activities and interests. It creates a kind of mosaic of the people you follow and is a way of keeping in touch without constantly calling or meeting with them. While some people do use it to write about what they are eating and other boring things, I find people use it more to post links to things they find interesting or brief thoughts on trends and events. In a lot of ways it seems less self-absorbed than something like livejournal, in that it is especially social and based on the constant input and feedback of those who follow you. It also is easier to keep up since it requires less work than posting a long update on livejournal does ( ... )

Twitter is nice to have to chat with friends who are far away and who don't feel the need to keep a proper journal. :) Otherwise it is just another social network thing. :)
