One reason firefly should stay gone

I spend alot of time driving. ALOT of time. Many things varied and vast pass through my brain when I am doing it. Its good time to plan things out. Sometimes work things out, even daydream. Today I realized something about Firefly. Theres one reason I'm glad that it ended. Joss didn't get to mess up Mel and Inara. I truly believed that once ( Read more... )

I don't think he's fixated with spoiling -relationships- per ce. I think his fascination is with the destruction of the innocent. Innocent characters aren't allowed to stay that way.

The -one- exception I can see to this is Dawn, from Buffy. I'd say she survives because she's not truly human. One might even say her lack of humanity indicates her lack of innocence.

He has truly happy relationships. THose relationships are spoiled by the death of an innocent member. Willow and Tara--truly happy, even in the face of conflict. Zoe and Wash--normal relationship with normal conflicts, but overall happy. It's the death of the innocent again that destroys it, not their lack.

I think sometimes what he's trying to say is that healthy relationships are too precious to be allowed to live "long enough for the world to learn to hate you" to crib Batman.
