Sorry to play the cynic (yet again), but these all sound like the typical American "I fully support it as long as it doesn't inconvenience me" approach. Sure, CFLs are good, but regularly turning off your lights is better. Adjusting your thermostat by 2 degrees is okay, but dressing and eating appropriately for the weather is better. These might be baby steps in the right direction, but that's all they are: baby steps. If you're going 100mph toward a cliff, dragging your feet ain't gonna help much, even if it makes you think you're helping.

So is it better to do nothing or to at least take a baby step? If a boat load of people make baby steps don't they add up all the time? If you want to use a light, say to read or make your dinner, is it better to use an old fashion light bulb or use a CFL? I think you need to lighten up a bit and be thankful for the small steps that are happening. I would rather have tried to make a change and have failed than to have not tried at all. I see no problem with making things easy for people to do in order to try and make a difference ( ... )

Of course it's a step in the right direction, as I said, but I think it's akin to trying to bail water with a bucket on the Titanic. It might make you feel better, and if so that's great, but don't mistake it for a real solution.

is there only one "real" solution or is it the total sum of many solutions?
