Hi, I saw your post on LJUK and I can't comment there as I haven't been added yet! BUT, I just wanted to say, I lived in Northamptonshire and moved down to Falmouth for uni (which is a distance of about 320 miles). Personally, I love living a long way away from home, you become totally independant and that's a great feeling. The only problem I've found is that on the (very rare) occassions that you do want to go home it's a nightmare to organise. I use National Express and it takes me 12 hours to get to Northampton from here, but it only costs £40 return, bargain!
I think this varies from person to person, if you think you'd really miss your family A LOT, and that it would make you sad that you can't see them any time you want, don't go too far. If you think you could handle only seeing them three or four times a year, then go as far as you like!

Good luck in whatever you choose :]
