"State of Denial"
Who: Sam, Gene and Peter
When: Day after "Not A Concern"
"Please don't tell me you got into a strange van with a man, Pete. You were gone all night." Sam was only a little worried. Gene was coming up today for a visit and he really was glad he didn't need to fill out a police report TODAY of all days.
It'd been three weeks since

Crawling onto his bed, Peter wriggled under the covers. His had was killing, he was partly hung over and the after effect of the drugs left him spinning! All he wanted to do was lie down. Course that would never last. Gene was coming today at any time and no doubt that he'd have to get up.
"I met a nice girl but she was ten years older and a mom, she just lied to me."
Thank you Sherlock for ruining that wonderful illusion.

Peter's eyes wandered. His hands wandered. And Sam had to suffer broken things because of it. Oh, what a pain in the arse to be friends with Peter Carlisle!
Sam didn't lecture Peter, he just got him some water and pain killers. He'd let Peter sleep. Gene would be here in a few hours and then sleeping would be called off for good.

He was so comfortable!
Course when something flies at your window and nearly smashes it, that was definitely a wake up call.
"What the bloody hell was that?!"
Gene Hunt, who else. Because going upstairs was underrated, throwing stuff at windows was apparently where it was at.

Sam grabbed his coat and Peter and did exactly as he said he would...tossing Peter into the shower before he thundered down the stairs.
Sam had grown a little more self conscious about touching in public, so instead of flinging his arms around Gene like he wanted to, he socked him lightly in the chest and peered at his car.
"This one's not yours."

Rolling his eyes, Gene slowed the pace slightly and went left, taking them down to the music shop. He could get something to play and it would probably wake Peter up.
It was like having a zombie in the backseat.
Speaking of which. "You wanna go to the picture tonight, horror night, playing the best zombie films."

It was a school night. Sammy was instantly torn. Gene would have to drive the three hours it took to get all the way back to Manchester tonight-- Well. Maybe not. "Don't have work tomorrow then?" Being in training meant weird hours for Gene. He could always stay over -- though the school wouldn't allow it, there were ways to sneak him in.
The moment the lion shook his head, Sam grinned.
"So staying over then?" That meant Peter would have to go. Somewhere. Well, sometimes he stayed over at Grantchester, it shouldn't be a bit deal. "I'd go see a movie tonight, sounds good."

Some nights the poor sod just slept on the floor outside, course he was usually blathered.
Gene parked the car crookedly across two spaces and opened the door, making sure he had the right place.
Opening the back door, he yanked the blanket off Peter and smirked at the sight of him.
"Look at this Sammy, a advertisement for why you shouldn't be an utter div and shag the first thing that buys you a drink."
Reply
"Peter, get up. You look like hell, what were you drinkin?"
As Gene sauntered into the shop, Sam tried to get Peter upright.
It was only then that he realized his friend wasn't just crashing from too much to drink.
"Oh c'mon. You're smarter than this, you idiot. How many times've we laughed at Stuart for being like this? What'd you take?"

Peter was completely none the wiser that they were both trying to get rid of him, he didn't really get that they were dating. Sherlock had implied it but Peter assumed it was a bit of a joke. Sure they were close and they flirted but they weren't that far yet! Surely.
"Well, actually, me and Sherlock are doing something Tuesday and we agreed to have the night off today to fully absorb and appreciate what happened last night," Peter remarked in an upbeat tone, smiling at the two boys. "So I'm staying in tonight, thinking of finally doing some studying."
As Peter danced happily down the street, doing a little spin as he took off down the alleyway, Gene looked ready to chase after him and smash his face in.
"He must be joking."

And even then, Sam always looked so damned guilty over it.
"Fully absorb and appreciate LSD on sugar cubes?!" he yelled...a bit too loudly. "Oh, damn it." He whined lightly and ran to catch up with Peter.
Gene didn't exactly run.
"Pete...Pete...don't you think you could go see him anyhow? I haven't seen Gene in awhile and..." Well Sam thought Peter knew! Sherlock knew, so Peter knew! That's how these things went.

It made sense to him, he'd be out the way and not interfering. Or so he assumed in his weird little conclusions.
"You did LSD? What is wrong with you? I told you, never do anything stronger than weed and even then, you can't do it regular," Gene lectured, he didn't care what Sherlock did but Peter was a mate. He didn't want Peter to end up like his brother and he always knew what to tell people.
"One night, promise. I have no plans to ever do it again. It got-- weird. So yeah, lets go get tea."
And off Peter bounced, leaving the other two looking suddenly very annoyed.
"Bollocks."

So what if Sam was more concerned with himself than with Peter's recreational drug use from the night before?
He ran his hands through hair that was growing a bit too long and was starting to curl.
"It's not like we can just drop him off at Grantchester. They have security!"
