I heartily approve. Though I don't think Evangelicals etc. will see this as a good thing! The important thing is that this isn't regarded as a victory for the Darwinian THEORY or for the church - it adds no more proof to it. I've got this vision of loads of people going "yeahhhh so that makes it even more right, now the church are accepting it!" It doesn't.
Hate to say it, but the Vatican doesn't speak for many Evangelicals. In most cases, they have their own staunch take on the literal (or otherwise) truths of the Bible, and a former Nazi in a big hat isn't going to convince them otherwise.
Can I take it that you have doubts over the theory of evolution? Without poking fun, do you have anything better? I honestly don't know if you're religious, so I'm being careful here :)
well, not just evangelicals (this is why I put etc, wasn't very clear I admit), but staunch Christians as a whole, who would only accept that the Bible be taken literally, the world created in 6 days and so on.
I am a Christian, but I take the Bible as an allegorical document, not as a historical record. I just think people should keep an open mind about something that is so difficult to ascertain, rather than clinging on to one particular theory. Also, I have no problem with believing that the Darwinian process and God could simultaneously exist.
