Recycling - have to remember to do ask about this

What does it mean when the council plastics recycling info says to take the lids off? We can recycle all plastics numbered from 1 to 7. A lot of lids fall into this category so am I taking off the lids so the bottles/jars are easier to squash or to throw them away into general rubbish

Weird. I would assume you had to take the covers off to show that the container doesn't have stuff in it. But assumed that the covers would still be recycled!

Says she who's really confused about what she can put in her recycling bin with how the municipality keeps changing their mind!
