[Thor is not quite certain what to make of this holiday thing that so many of the humans are invested in, but he supposes that it's an excuse to eat more food than usual, so he'll accept it. It's just something of and odd tradition to him, given they call it such a strange name. When the feed starts, he's somewhere in the woods, and he has on his ( Read more... )

I think most would say it was just a reminder for the rest of the year, but it's a good question. ...So are the others.

Giving thanks on one day seems understandable. Perhaps I am merely used to celebrating much more often.

I'm afraid we can't all be as enthusiastic as it seems those in Asgard are.

[She laughs quietly.]

You're welcome to join me today.

I would expect it impossible. None of you could stomach the mead.

[He chuckles lightly.] I would not wish to impose. I do not celebrate Thanksgiving, I would not know the customs.

I know nothing of... this Thanksgiving day you speak of. [because its so far past his time, America isn't even a thing yet. Getting to Jerusalem was hard enough, let alone that far.] But the holiday is just that... it is a Holy Day. The day when the son of God was born unto man.

... [but he frowns and agree, because this is exactly what he thought the minute he was told of the war here.] I am of a like mind in this matter... this separation without proper planning and assembling of forces is troublesome at best. No war I have heard of is fought like this, with such little preparation.

The son of one single God, and there are countless celebrations for his honour. It seems excessive. There are many gods, we all celebrate each other, but not so often for one single child. Judeo-Christian celebrations seem very limited and... boring.

[He laughs faintly.] There is a military, but they use only guns it would seem. Those do not harm anything but mortals. The Serpent we fight is far from a human. We need to plan, to prepare an emergency strategy for when the Serpent strikes next time.

... Some of them have been taken from the old religions. [it doesn't seem prudent to say Heathen.] They're most about repentance, and forgiveness.

My knowledge is limited in this regard. I know the way of swords, axes. I am not yet acquainted with modern weapons. [but he'll learn, of course he'll learn.] But I agree, there needs to be more in place than there is. There so much lacking preparation for such a force, as I understand it.

As I said. Boring. None of these people know how to hold a feast or a banquet. It is disappointing.

I have never used modern weapons, they are not what I am best with, but nothing can match the power of my hammer, Mjolnir. [He nods a little.] There appears to be a military rising, but nothing yet that could defend the whole city from such a foe.

Human holidays are one of the slightly more fascinating, yet most confusing aspects to their kind.

They have so many, for such varied reasons, and yet so few of them seem to actually believe in much at all.

Over time meanings and beliefs can, and often times will, be lost.

It just seems foolish to spend time celebrating and yet not planning for the war we fight.

It's an American tradition. The story of the Native Americans sharing with the first settlers, and it was just a time of... you know. Being Thankful?

Do you know the whole story? [A beat.] Can you tell me of this tale?

I might need to get a refresher course on some of the details.

I understand. My people have so many tales, often they get mixed up. [A pause.] Ah, Pepper invited us to join her today, for some time.

[Well, howdy there, blondie. The metal man on the other end of the line is certainly regarding your appearance a bit too intently with those glowing mismatched eyes of his.]

It ain't that we ain't so t-thankful th' rest o' th' year. It's just an extra special time o' th' year t' remember that no matter h-how annoyin' an' troublesome an' just downright aggravatin' they can be, yer family is still yer family an' ya'll always love 'em an' be there when it c-counts.

[At least that is what the center of Thanksgiving has always been for the robots. Family first.]

An' I guess it's a good excuse t' pig out, yeah?

[Okay, well, that's definitely a lot better explanation than any he's heard so far.]

I can see now why you would have such a day. My own family could have gladly used such a day.

[A laugh.] There is always an excuse for that.

It would be something of a benefit to many, no doubt.
