[The Major had not been idle. As soon as she was able she was up and about, going as much reconnaissance as she was able to. She was no longer in Japan, that much was immediately clear. It was not any city she recognised, nor was she able to connect to any of her usual networks. Each and every attempt left a loud buzz of static in her ear

[Shepard wonders vaguely who she is, but that will come soon.] I'm afraid unless those names are under the contact list in your given device, you won't be getting a response from them. You're likely without your comrades. I'm sorry.

I thought so. They told me there was a war here- but not many soldiers as far as I've seen. They would have done better to bring my team, not just me.

[He clears his throat a little.] I'm Commander Shepard, of the SSV Normandy SR-2. I can try to answer any questions you have. As for the war, it's definitely present, but we're a time of uneasy rest for now. I lead the military of this world, and you're right. We don't have enough soldiers at all.

Major Motoko Kusanagi, of Japan's Public Security Section 9. [She'd debated leaving out aher rank and position, at least until she'd heard more about this place, but as alien as it was to her, she'd probably be to them. Holding information back from allies had never served them well in the past.] That doesn't bode well, for any of us. What about arms and provisions? Your city didn't seem to be suffering the ill-effects of rationing.

I'm sure none of them have replied, so I'll give you your location. You're on an alien planet far from home, congratulations.

[Bullshit, he just loves confusing newbies.]
They're not here.

Although if you've got more information about this place, I'd be glad of it. The technology here isn't what I'm used to.

[Tony's learned to lower his standards a lot since coming to Mandalus, and he'd never really been all that picky about booze in the first place. He's been to so many bars in the city that he's starting to lose track of which one's which. This time he's chatting with a stranger at the bar when he notices the pretty lady come in and sit beside him. Because he has no survival instinct, he leans towards her with one of his most charming smiles.]
Sweetheart, you can get as many beers as you want. [He motions to the bartender to get her a beer and to refill Tony's own drink while he's at it, then turns back to the newcomer.] First one's on me.

She gives a soft, feminine sort of laugh, tucking some of the long strands of hair behind one ear. If she wasn't in her combat gear this would be much easier to pull off but beggar's can't choosers.] Arigatou, sir. Alhught you realy don't have to. A girl has to fin her own way in the world, even if it isnt the one she's used to.
[She turns in her seat to look at him, folding one long leg over the othe in a slow, provocative movement.] You can call me Ai.

[He watches her cross her legs while holding out his hand for a handshake.] Tony Stark. Pleasure to meet you.

[Then she touches her hand to his, shaking with less force than she might otherwise] A pleasure to meet you too, Mr Stark. I didn't expect to find anyone here who could speak Japanese.

[She pauses, taking the beer bottle she's handed and she moved from her seat to one closer to the othe man, a man who looked Chinese. The only other people she'd seen so far were westerners.]
Pretty new. I came in on the last train. [She sits down, doesn't bother for an invitation] You've been here some time?

A few months? So I'm one of the last ones here? [War is never over quickly, she knows that, but she was hoping that it wouldn't be so drawn out. No one was ready, as far as she could see nothing was prepared. According to all the spiel they'd given her on arrival the war was already under say but you wouldn't know that otherwise. There were no signs of it.
She leans back, the language processors in her cyber-brain switching to Mandarin after a moment or two. It's not an alien language, but it's better than Englush. She's dealt in Mandarin before, even of it wasn't on such peaceful terms] Major Motoko Kusanagi, Japanese Public Security. It was 2031.
