05 | A Starkmas Party | Action, Open to All

Dec 24, 2012 02:05

[Pepper sent out the public invitation a week ago for the party. She'd been planning for a Christmas party of some sort for several months - money was always a concern here, compared to back home - and she had actually done most of the work herself ( Read more... )

[Tony's pretty pleased how things turned out - not surprised, exactly, but pleased. Pepper's always been a great party planner, but they're working with much more limited funds in Mandalus. Also she tends to veto some of his more ridiculous party ideas these days. Regardless, there's plenty of alcohol and Tony got away with putting up completely awesome lights, and he'd told JARVIS to play something other than Christmas tunes the whole time, so things were looking up. He'd even gotten dressed up for the occasion, red to Pepper's green for some holiday spirit.

If you're at the party tonight, Tony'll probably come bother you eventually. If you're not, expect a series of obnoxious texts telling you to get your ass over to Stark Tower.]

Tony. I'm surprised you haven't absconded with half the alcohol yet.

The night's still young, there's plenty of time. This is a wonderful party you've got going here, Ms. Potts.

JARVIS isn't supposed to let you leave until I give you permission. [She laughs and leans over to kiss his cheek.]

Thank you for your help, Mr. Stark.

[ Really, Selina had no desire to go to Stark's party. Elizabeth insisted however, and Selina fought back about it. After an hour of arguing and scowling, Selina finally told her she'd go. Dressed plainly compared to the last dress Tony saw her in, Selina stays near the back of the party and watches everyone carefully. Maybe she'll get lucky and find someone she can trail. Otherwise, Selina is just keeping an eye out on Elizabeth and her modern outfits. ]

[So Tony's pretty sure he messed something up last time he and Selina spoke. Problem is, he's not even really sure what it was. He's surprised she even came to the party, but he figures Elizabeth likely had something to do with that. Still, he approaches her tentatively, holding out a glass of champagne for her as a peace offering.]

No red today, I see.

[ Her gaze sweeps over to him. A moment later she takes the glass. She'll be polite for now. ]

It didn't seem as fancy as an occasion. Not to mention the red dress got a little beaten up.

Still, you look nice. [He knows she can hear that for the empty piece of flattery that it is, but he gives her a smile anyway.] Lizzie drag you here tonight?

[Elizabeth had faced plenty of social situations in her life, some more difficult than others. Facing a room of men who wanted her dead of instance, or meeting Anjou and have him kissing her in front of a group of her peers. But this? This was worse. Dressed like this, she felted so past humiliated and awkward. Exposed, and not at all herself. Still she tried to make the most of it, hair all done up and matching shoes. Praying that no one could see as she found a corner as far out of the way as she could, holding her purse in front of her, shifting awkwardly. Where was Selina? Or Gabriel? Anyone, she frankly didn't care. Or maybe no one. No one should see her like this it was undignified. Damn Stark, damn him to some shadowy cold hell.

Damn it all, she needed a drink. The last few days were hell. Her mother to start with, worried about that she'd completely forgotten about her agreement until the dress had turned up this morning. Not that she was planning on being anything less than stunning anyway.]

Elizabeth!

[Pepper is here, with champagne? Is that good enough?]

I'm glad you could come.

[Champagne will certainly do. Don't mind her when she takes it quickly and tips her head back to drink it empty.]

I'm... glad to be here. [Even if she's not happy with her attire.]

[Pepper gently leads Lizzie over to the bar.]

Really? You can be honest with me.

[Castiel is not even really sure how he got an invitation to this party -- but here he is.. The thrift stores of this world have been kind to him, as have his friends by increasing the number of ties he owns by three-fold. He takes off the trench-coat, neatly, as he looks around with wide and startled eyes. He has never seen so much ... wealth and technology before. It is quite startling, to someone who has gotten used to medieval and Victorian wealth.]

[He walks carefully around the electric mistletoe, edging his way to the snack table.]

[Wait just a moment, Pepper has to greet everyone. Especially if she doesn't know them.]

Hello! Thanks for coming.

[Castiel stops, looking a little unnerved by this entire place.]

Ah ... greetings. I was not sure if I would need to bring anything?

No, of course not.

[She smiles, reaching out to pat Castiel's arm gently.]

No one's going to bite you, you can relax.

[Jo ignored the first invite, and the second, but after the third apparently personal invitation she had decided to come.

At the least she could boost a bottle of something really expensive and take some good food before leaving, right? She even made the effort of wearing her best jeans and scrubbing her boots before coming.]

[Tony didn't think Jo would actually come to the party, but it seems his nagging paid off.]

Oh Jo, I knew you couldn't resist my charms. Or the lure of free food.

[Or the chance to break something.]

Who said I was here for food?

[There are security cameras everywhere, Jo, he'd like to see you try.]

Alcohol is food, trust me.
