Forgive me if this is an idea that's been floated before, but would people be interested in a live chat, rather than having to constantly play catch-up with LJ comments? If you have an IM client that supports Jabber, you can sign in with your LJ username/password (or do the same here, for that matter), and join whatever predetermined chat room - hmssurprise or what have you.
