my sister has a dell (i think she bought it through her school) and has had nothing bu nightmares with it - it's constantly broken, doesn't work right, or doesn't connect to the school's network properly...
i had a toshiba at one point that i *loved* - it was the sturdiest thing around!
I have an iBook--I've had it for about a year now. No complaints. I like that macs are virus resistant, plus I think they're just more aesthetically pleasing. I have the 12", which is nice and light--good for transporting.
I've never had a laptop (these days, I barely have a lap) but we've been talking about getting one. Unfortunately, 5G in bathroom renos have kiboshed that for now.
So glad you had a Kodak moment at Christmas though!
I have a Toshiba. It's pretty and I love it, although pretty much the day after the warranty ran out I started having problems with the sound card. That said, the problem was easily fixed and that's about all that's happened since I've had it, over 2 years now. Great speakers. I don't know the model number off hand but I'll send it to you later.
However. The mac's are pretty popular these days and have fewer problems from what I know.
I had an IBM thinkpad for about 5 years before it finally died. I loved it, and had very few problems with it. It was lightweight and really versatile.
My sister currently has an HP laptop with a HUGE 19" screen. She uses it for graphics and artwork, though.
I went back to a Dell desktop....mainly because I got a kickass deal on it.
