A family had lived in this home for the past sixty years but finally sold it and moved to Freeport. They left furniture, clothing and many personal belongings inside the house. A citation from the City about the hazardous swimming pool was taped on the front door ( Read more... )

What I can't figure out is HOW they got that pool out of the ground so quickly! It (and the house) were demolished in a day, but they used a wrecking ball for the house (I'm so sorry I missed seeing that!). I guess they attacked the pool from the edges and chipped away at it. What a mess...I bet that nasty water was splashing all over. Ewwww.

And then I guess they dumped dirted into the rest of the hole once they dug all the concrete out. I was curious if they'd remove the ENTIRE concrete foundation of the pool, but I guess I'll never know -- they probably did as the new owners night want to build their own pool.

Hey you! How have you been? Finished your schooling yet? :=)

Yes! Post your derelict crazy house photos! Asylums are the BEST Urban Exploration photos, IMO.

It is a really great contast of colours though isn't it. This Ex-packrat can't imagine leaving stuff behind.

What did they build in its place?

Nothing has been built there yet. It's just an empty lot right now. I wish the house hadn't been torn down so quickly as I'd have continue to return every month and photograph its further deterioration. It was interesting to watch the house be disassembled as scavengers (myself included) removed items and pieces of the home. A few days before it was torn down, the front door (a fairly new door wiwith nice cut-leaded glass panels) was taken and a blanket left tacked in its place.

If the pool was filled with lime-flavored Jello, I think Robbie certainly would jump in and just start eating! :=)

Inground swimming pools always freak me out -- especially if they are abandoned (shiver!!)

Back in the 80s, one of my mom's friends moved into this big old house and they had a tore up swimming pool in the back yard! It scared me immensely. The liner was all ripped up to expose wood and the ground underneath and the dirty water only sat at the bottom of the "deep end" (shiver again -- "the deep end" freaks me out, too!!)

Were there zombies and the Undead in the pool too? I think old pools are creepy partly due to having seen the movie Poltergeist. ;=)
