Hiking is so good for the soul. I just had the most amazing time. I took my dog, put on my rain coat and we left. I didn't go really far, just out back of our house but if you go out back, past the neighbors hunting camp and acrossed 2 hay fields there is a beautiful gorge. I just love going and I know my dog will protect me if any scary ( Read more... )

Your are more then welcome if you would like to come to PA.

I'm switching subjects here but can you think of any good books for alcoholics to read that are kind of gentle? I don't know if that makes sense. I'll try to explain. Lee has been doing really well with drinking since that last time I posted about it. He wasn't drinking much and wasn't mean so I wasn't overly worried about it. He still hasn't gotten mean so I really didn't even realize he was drinking more until he told me but it drives him crazy that he has such a hard time controlling himself and every afternoon it drives him nuts because he wants to drink. Today he is trying really hard and is carrying around a jug of iced tea so he has something to drink but he is pretty edgey. I am so proud of him for trying but I'm not really sure how to help. :/ I don't know if it's best to do nothing and let him work it out himself, to get a book for me to read, or him. The only thing I've been doing right now is being nice to him and making sure there's lots of iced tea

Well, with James, he would just get defensive everytime we talked about it. I got 2 books (one from my aunt and one from my friend Julie) and although neither of the books had anything to do with alcoholism, they both helped me tremendously. The first one is a sort of "workbook" and really makes you think. It's called "Lord, Heal My Hurts" by Kay Arthur and the other one is called "When I'm On My Knees, devotional thoughts and prayer for women" by Anita Corrine Donihue.
Honestly, what worked best for James was an antidepressant and a perscription for antabuse. Not only does antabuse prevent him from drinking because if he does drink while taking it he will get violently ill, but it also helps to curb the desire for alcohol, as will the antidepressant. Good luck Mandy. I know how hard this nightmare is. If there's anything else I cna do, let me know. {{{HUGS}}}

Thanks so much for the names of thoes books, I am constantly ordering christin womens books so Lee wouldn't even get upset when they show up in the mail. I'll look on amazon for them, I have a hard time staying away from that website.
Lee isn't big on medicine so now is not the time to mention those to him but I will mention it to him sometime when it feels right.
Thank you so much for your support, it really means a lot to me that I can ask you things without worrying about being judged or you thinking Lee is a horrible person. You are priceless to me. :)

My "hiking" scenery around here is limited to hay pastures, cows and a pond. lol
