White Lie ~Mandy & Pat~

Dec 08, 2013 19:30

Mandy wasn't going to lie. She always enjoyed visiting a Muggle bar instead of the ones in the wizarding world. Perhaps it was because she usually always saw schoolmates or someone who knew someone and it just made things more complicated. When she was looking for a stress-free night she always went to Muggle bars where she could just be herself ( Read more... )

There was certainly a strange sort of sixth sense that one developed after so many years of busing, waiting, and bartending - no matter how many other people had already been tended to, no matter the task he was working on, Pat could always sense and spot a new arrival, always knew just when to pop up and assert himself in his usual, friendly, laid-back bartender way. So when he was halfway through putting together a couple of Sex on the Beachs for the annoyingly cuddly couple at the end of the bar and spotted a new presence at the far end of the counter, it wasn't long before Pat finished up the cocktails, slid them along to the pair of models for public displays of affection, and turned to face and welcome the new (yet actually quite familiar, upon direct sighting) figure.

"What can I get you this evening?" he asked, flashing the kind of smile that went a bit beyond the standard greeting, the kind he generally reserved for the more regular crowds.

Mandy wasn't worried about not being served. She had been here enough to know that she would be taken care of in good time and would be treated well. She couldn't help but smirk at the coupley couple at the other end. Clearly they were new to dating, at least she hoped they were. No healthy relationship should be that clingy.

When her favorite bartender came over she smiled and sat up a bit, "Hey hows it going?" She bit her lip while she thought, "Can I get a rum and coke and a basket of chips please?"

"Sure thing," Pat nodded, signaling to the kitchen waiter for the chips. He flipped a glass out from under the counter, scooped it through the ice box, snatched up the rum bottle and tipped out the right amount with practiced ease and fluidity, topping off the glass with coke and a twist of lime before sliding it across to her.

"Haven't seen you around here in a while," he said casually, leaning back as he wiped his hand on the towel hanging from his belt. "How've you been?"

She smiled in thanks and took a long sip. Ah, yes strong, just how she liked it. The man could make some good drinks. Sure she would have loved a shot of firewiskey but as she was in a muggle bar she knew that she was going to have to make due with this. Besides who could hate the view of the bartender in front of her, and he seemed like a decent guy.

"I've been good, very busy. I just returned a month ago from Mexico. I had been there for a few weeks for work." She took another sip, "How's things with you?"
