What's a cold and broken Hallelujah?

At 4:55am when I show up all alone at work there is a stillness in this city that I cannot get used to. The first thing I do is put on music, depending on my mood I switch from Sinatra to Otis Redding to this Rock mix from the 60's...any one of these will get me movin and the mix lasts just enough time for me to open the store. that song is amazing. written by leonard cohen though, not jeff buckley (even though his version is more haunting).

I think a cold and broken hallelujah is a hallelujah said without joy, or love. Like most hallelujah's repeated ad nauseum by church flocks.

That used to be my favorite time, when it was all dark in the place and you could revel in the stillness of it, right before the rambling started. I like to listen to music alone, but it seems 100 times more rewarding when you know you're doing it right before a crowd gathers to listen with you.
